My Very Own Dinosaur

As a part of an interview process for a job, I was once asked the following question:

If you could create your very own dinosaur (traditional or hybrid), what would it be and how would you take care of it?

Here was my response:

I recently took a quiz on Buzzfeed that was very similar to this; I’m not going to lie.

My dinosaur would be the ultimate mutt. It would be about half the size of a T. Rex, but still a carnivore. I’d want it to have wings like a Pterodactyl and talons like a Velociraptor. Lastly it would spit venom and have a sweet neck collar like a Dilophosaurus, because everyone needs some frill in their lives.

Taking care of it would not be easy. I think I’d want to raise it from a baby to try to bond with it as much as I could. Once it grew up, I’d need to maintain contact (but safely) while still allowing it to have its own space. I’ve always wanted to build a biodome and this seems like as good a reason as any. The biodome would have plants and animals as close to their most appropriate ancestors as is currently possible. My masters in molecular biology would come in handy for this part. It would be its own ecosystem of which Susan (my dinosaur) would be a natural part. I’m not sure if I’d want to allow Susan to breed though since “life finds a way.”

Similar to how veterinarians and animal conservationists tranquilize large animals like rhinos to assess, diagnose, and treat them, Susan would likely have to undergo the same. The last thing I’d want is for me and my team to wind up poisoned and slashed by Susan’s talons of death.

P.S. I basically built Jurassic Park and we’re all going to die.

That's it. That's the whole post.
